For those unfamiliar with Pitch Wars, it’s a contest where published/agented authors, editors, or interns choose one writer each, read their entire manuscript, and offer suggestions to shine it up for these agents here. The mentors also critique the writer’s pitch to get it ready for the agent round. Mentors also pick two alternates each in case their writer drops out of the contest. A special alternate showcase is held on some of the mentors’ blogs and the mentors will critique the alternates’ pitches. Writers send applications (query and first 5 pages of manuscript) to the four mentors that best fit their work. The mentors then read all their applications and choose the writer they want to mentor for the next five weeks to be ready for the agent round January 22 through January 23.

Mack watched as a slow smile grew on Dani’s face, “Wow Mack” she sighed out.

Her brow creased a bit as she looked up and down and then settled onto Mack’s face.

“That is you, right? I mean aliens didn’t come down and swipe our Mack and exchange her with some hot babe as a joke or something?”

Mack grabbed a stuffed bear lying in a box next to her mirror and threw it, missing Dani as she ducked.

Update!

Great News! I have completed my last chapter. I just sent the rough draft off to be edited. It should be back in a day or two- She is amazing and edits really fast!

Then off to the publisher. I hope to have some more good news in a few weeks. Until then I will still be releasing Saturday Snippets all the way up until the book is released.

I will also be planning an online release party on Facebook as well as some other great things in the works.

“Stop it now!” she heard Sebastian yell, but it didn’t seem to affect them in the least. Mack looked around for something to break them up. She reached out towards the dresser and grabbed the fire extinguisher she had seen earlier and opened it up towards the mess of limbs flying around at her feet.

Kai put her on her feet and opened the passenger side door to his car without releasing his hold on her.

“I really don’t care. This is between Mack and me and they can just deal.” Kai took a step toward her, pressing himself against her, looking deeply into her eyes and penetrating her very soul. “Are you OK with coming with me to talk?” he asked her.

Happy Special Teaser!

I saw that I had started the last three posts with the words HAPPY, so I decided to keep going with it! Anyway, I had a wonderful birthday yesterday. Ended with a chocolate cake and fun and laughter with all my kids and my hubby. Who could ask for anything more. We are celebrating tonight with a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Got to LOVE the Halloween season. Best holiday EVER!
As promised, here is the third in birthday celebration special teasers. I hope you enjoy and please post any comments about what you have read so far to let me know what you think. And, without further ado...

ET:UB Teaser....

Mack held onto him like a lifeline. She felt his arms around her, his hands gently rubbing her back. One of them slowly rubbing up to her neck and entwining into her hair.

She felt his lips on hers and her body stopped trembling of fright and began trembling for a whole other reason. She melted on the spot. She melted into him. He kissed her again and her arms slowly came to rest on his face. Holding him to her, keeping his lips on her. She didn’t want to lose his touch. This connection. Him.

His lips started out soft, reassuring, but soon became more determined, demanding. Mack joined him in her determination. Her arms began to run down his neck, across his collar and down his arms.

He slowly shifted her back against the pillows as he reached for her face. His hands grabbed her and held her in place as his need for her rose. His kisses became frenzied and Mack was right there with him. He traveled from her lips to that tender spot between her neck and shoulder and her body exploded with need as she gasped at the exquisite sensation.

Happy Birthday!!!!

So, when looking for which snippet to use today I came across this one. It seemed appropriate as it's my birthday and all. This is a special letter that Mack received from her father. I must say I cried writing it. Anyway, enjoy and I'll see you again tomorrow with the last special teaser!

My Dearest Makenna,

Happy Birthday my bright beautiful daughter. The opening of this letter signifies you have turned 18 and the truth of who you are and what your place in this world is now known to you.

It saddens me that you are reading this. That means that I am not there with you. That I am not able to tell you in person all that I need to say. For that, I am sorry my sweet girl.

Right now, I am sitting on my bed with the two most beautiful women next to me. Your mother is lying on her side asleep with her arm wrapped around you. You are six months old today.

As I look at you sleeping, my heart breaks for what we have done, but it breaks more for the future you are destined to have...


... I wish the Gods had seen to it that I was there with you. To help you, guide you and love you through all of this. But I know your family is there and you are not alone.

The day that each of you were born was a blessing to me. My love for each of you is only as limitless as the stars in the sky. It is never ending and eternal and while I am not there in body, I will always be there in spirit.

Makenna, my precious baby, I know you will succeed in all that you must do, for you already show the strength of a thousand men. Know that I am with you at every step and should you need me, you simply need to turn out the lights and look to the sky for I am in each star that shines down upon you.

Happy Hump Day!

Well today marks the last day of my 40th year. Tomorrow will be my official birthday and I am very excited. So many new things have happened this past year and so many great things are still ahead. Anyway, as a special treat I have decided to release a few extra teasers today, tomorrow and Friday. Just a little celebration of my special day and a way to share it with all of you. So here is my first of three special teasers for you...

“Now you hear me Leith. That boy is more than what he seems. He has a part to play in all of this and you best be leaving him to do it,” she commanded.

Grandpa started to explain again and she turned her stern eyes right at him, he actually flinched away, surprised at her response.

“Don’t you try and tell me what danger this boy does or doesn’t bring to Mack. He has a purpose in all this, and he stays right where he is. Now, don’t you think about arguing or sassing me, I won’t have none of it!” and she stormed off, getting onto the back of one of the ATV’s and summarily dismissing any further argument.

Grandpa and Lee simultaneously sighed. There was nothing to do when Mama Maria declared her mind but go with it.

Saturday Snippet

It took me a bit to decide on what to use as this week's snippet. I was going to cut this section smaller, but the whole exchange was so cute I had to keep it all together. this means you get a slightly larger snippet this week. Hope you don't mind. Anyway, without further ado....

“So, how old will this birthday make you?” He leaned in a bit closer to ask.

“18”

“Practically an old maid. Should we be dancing? I mean, I don’t want you to break a hip or anything.” He chuckled. The light sound brought a smile to her face.

“I think I can survive one dance. However, I may need my walker to get back to my table when were done.” This was nice. The light banter back and forth was making her feel more comfortable with him and her mind seemed to finally thaw from its previously frozen state. Probably due to the heat she was soaking up from his touch.

“Don’t worry, I’ll carry you if you get too bad.” He smiled down at her again. Oh Gods, that smile actually weakened her knees.

“So, when did your ‘official’ birthday occur? 10am this morning? Or more like 2pm? I mean the amount of time you have aged is very important to your physical health. If you’ve only been 18 for a few hours than you might be ok to walk without assistance. But if you’ve been aging since early this morning, well then, we might need an ambulance and an oxygen tank to assist you soon.”

Mack burst out laughing. He was a funny God. Now she knew this must all be a dream. No one, especially her, could get this lucky in one lifetime.

“I’ll have you know that ‘officially’ I haven’t actually turned 18 yet.” She threw back at him.

Kai faltered in his steps, made an overly dramatic horror filled face.

“Good Gods! I’m dancing with jailbait! I could get arrested in these parts you know?”

What's New

Hello Readers!

I usually post something earlier in the week, but life has kept me busy. I sent out my BETA copies last week. I have already started to get some back and it's looking great so far. I will admit to a few small changes though. I am very excited to get the rest back. Right now, I am working on a different book to give me BETA readers some time. Once I get them all back, I should be back to the old grindstone.

If you haven't already, take a look at some of my favorite authors on the left side bar. I must tell you that I finished Sherrilyn Kenyon's Styxx and cried my eyes out. What a phenomenal story. Her whole Dark Hunters series is great. Also, try out Christine Feehan's books- I have read them all, but my favorite is the Carpathian series. They are all stand alone stories but reading them in order is the best.

Recently, my husband bought me a book written by an old high school friend named Kimberly Sabatini. Her first novel is titled Breaking the Surface, it is a very moving and wonderful novel about three teens after death. I suggest it wholeheartedly.

Saturday Snippet...

Another glorious Saturday, another fun snippet. I have to admit, it's a bit hard to pick what to post each Saturday. I don't want to give any plot points away or ruin a moment by releasing its outcome ahead of time. So, after careful consideration this is the lovely bit I finally decided on...

“No.” Kai’s voice was hard, deep and may the Gods help her- compelling.

“No, Mack. You can hate me, mistrust me and even kill me tomorrow.  But now, right now, please just let me help you.” He was still speaking in his usual demanding tone, only this time she felt a hint of pleading in it, and it hit her straight in the heart.

“I swear, I will tell you anything you want, I will stay away from you if you tell me to, I will do whatever you ask, just please,” he sighed resting his forehead against hers, “Please trust me enough in this moment to help you.”

Good News

I had some awesome news to share an it couldn't wait till tomorrow, when I write my Saturday snippet. I have finally reached the halfway mark! Why is this great news? Well, that's a great question. That means it's time to send it out to my BETA readers. I have 2 right now , but I'm looking for 2 more.

If you're interested in being one of them, than email me at mslagares72@yahoo.com. I am sending out the word/pdf files this Sunday. I need all feedback by next Sunday or sooner, if you can manage it.

I am so excited right now. I have been waiting for this day for weeks now. I can't wait to see the responses, good and bad. Let's face it, I'm not perfect. I expect to have to change some stuff, fix some errors and maybe even rewrite a few sections. Still, the whole process is amazing and I can't wait!

Happy Tuesday

Hello!
Well, I have had a few days off from writing while some other projects were going on. However, Things will be back on track by tomorrow. I am currently hoping to get about 8,000- 10,000 words written by Friday. This will bring me to the half way point.
I am currently in the lookout for BETA readers. If you are one or know of someone who is please send them my way. This novel is Young Adult Fiction, Sci-fi, Romance. Think along the same lines as Twilight and Immortal Instruments. Just email me or leave a message on my Facebook page.

Saturday Snippet

So, far we are progressing well. Here is a teaser from Chapter 2:

“I love you,” the voice on the phone whispered, “You can never call here again.”

“I know.” Kai hadn’t wanted to cry since he was 14 years old and fell out of the tree in his Uncle Sebastian’s back yard. He had broken his arm in two places and the pain from that didn’t even compare to what his heart was feeling right now.

“Goodbye” Kai said into the phone.

“Goodbye” he whispered back.

And with the click of the phone, his path was now set in motion. He felt the burden press upon his shoulders as a single tear rolled down his cheek.

He swiped it away and went back to work.

Learning...

Ok. So if you have been checking the site out you have probably noticed that it keeps changing. Well, that's me. I admit it. I am learning my way around Blogger. As I find new things I like, I change the page. I am also looking for a decent header. So far I am iffy about the new one I just posted. It seems too big. I am also hoping to add my music list, just as soon as I figure out how to make one. Lol

Well, to say that I am no expert at technology would be an accurate statement. I do love to learn however, so bare with me as I learn and explore. And, if you have any good ideas, please let me know!

Saturday Snippet

Hello Readers

Elemental Thesis: Unbound is well on its way. We have already been contacted by a publisher. Due to a change in my direction I am re-writing the story. One of my characters was fighting me every step of the way so I finally stopped beating my head against the wall and decided to backtrack and begin again. Best decision I ever made. Now, the pages are flowing and all the characters are developing nicely. While the general outline to the story and the series as well remains the same, the characters themselves seem to be bringing me along on their own paths. I'm not complaining, we end up right where I want us to be in the end! If all stays on track it's looking like a December release. Keep checking back for more snippets and updates.
