“I love you,” the voice
on the phone whispered, “You can never call here again.”
“I know.” Kai hadn’t
wanted to cry since he was 14 years old and fell out of the tree in his Uncle
Sebastian’s back yard. He had broken his arm in two places and the pain from
that didn’t even compare to what his heart was feeling right now.
“Goodbye” Kai said into
the phone.
“Goodbye” he whispered
back.
And with the click of
the phone, his path was now set in motion. He felt the burden press upon his
shoulders as a single tear rolled down his cheek.
He swiped it away and
went back to work.
